There is nothing typical or ordinary about this professional chef who's turned into one to the world's best professional Elvis Presley impersonators. For sixteen years, Ray Guillemette Jr., a.k.a. "A-Ray of Elvis," was living a dream and his world was under his control. If being an Elvis impersonator wasn't a unique enough job, in 2001, following a tragic motorcycle collision, Ray became an Elvis impersonator with one leg!

One beautiful July evening Ray decided to go for a relaxing ride down a two-lane, rural, but well-traveled road just outside Hartford, CT. As he looked in his rearview mirror, he noticed pin-sized headlights off behind him in the distance. Returning his focus back to the road ahead, the proximity of the oncoming vehicle changed quickly. Ray soon realized that the immediate cracking and banging coming from his rear of motorcycle was from that of a late model Dodge Ram Diesel pick-up truck crashing through his rear fender. The drunk, drug-induced, and barely conscious driver continued to drag though the back of the bike and onto the left side of the motorcycle, ripping though the back of Ray's left leg. Completing this gruesome pass, the truck continued onward hell-bent until it drove off the road ahead of Ray, where police were able to apprehend the vicious violator. State police, judging by the impact to Ray's bike, determined that the truck was traveling at approximately 80 mph!

At that very moment Ray's world was no longer under Ray's control. "What! This could not be happening to me! What! I need my legs! My life, my family...oh my god...my career!" Ray endured thirteen operations and large doses of pain medication to try to save his left leg, only to arrive at an inevitable, monumental crossroad in his life. Should Ray stay the course of trying to save the limb, or accept the horrific suggestion given just a month and a half earlier...to have it amputated? After gathering as much information as possible in a week's time, and a promise to himself to gain back his quality of life and self-worth, Ray concluded that he would allow doctors to amputate. He knew that the transition of walking again could be tough...would be tough, but with his decision to have his leg amputated came his decision to succeed at life again!

Presently, Ray is still rocking and rolling the way the king did it, with his trademark concert presentation, "A-Ray of Elvis"! Now in his 16th year as Elvis, Ray still holds the crown as one of the most sought after Elvis tribute artists in the world! In addition, Ray has successfully created an extended family with his association with Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics, as a patient advocate and spokesperson, and Otto Boch, designers of the C-Leg that Ray wears, and The Amputee Coalition of America (ACA), of which Ray is an active member and advocate.
